Need replacement spikes for your sprint or field event shoes? Our Christmas Tree Spikes — also known as Compression Tier Spikes — are designed for use on synthetic track surfaces and are a preferred option for sprinters, hurdlers, middle-distance runners (up to 1500m), and field athletes in events such as long jump, triple jump, high jump, and javelin.

The Christmas Tree design features a series of flat, tiered steps instead of a pointed tip, offering a broader surface area where the spike contacts the track. While some manufacturers promote these spikes as delivering greater energy return and reduced track penetration compared to Pyramid Spikes, independent research shows that although energy return is marginally improved, both designs penetrate the track to a similar extent.

Whether athletes choose Christmas Tree Spikes or Pyramid Spikes often comes down to personal preference. Pyramid Spikes are generally favoured for longer distances and steeplechase, while the Xmas Tree shape remains popular in sprints, hurdles, and field events.

Manufactured from quenched and tempered steel, our replacement spikes are built for strength and long-term durability. Like all track spikes, they will eventually wear down with regular use—but replacing them is quick and easy using a standard spike key.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will these spikes fit my shoes?

All replacement spikes sold on Spikes.au have a universal thread used in all modern athletics spike shoes. That means they will fit all spike shoes from major brands including Nike, Adidas, ASICS, Puma, New Balance, On and Saucony.

If your shoes originally came with removable metal spikes, these replacements will fit.

What spike length should I choose?

For most athletes competing on synthetic athletics tracks, 6mm spikes are the standard and are accepted at almost all venues.

For other surfaces:
• 9mm spikes are commonly used for cross country
• 12mm spikes are typically used for grass surfaces or very soft ground

If you're unsure, complete our >3-question Spike Recommendation Quiz for personalised advice.

Do I need a spike key?

Yes. A spike key (also called a spike wrench) is used to remove old spikes and securely tighten new ones into your shoes.

Most spike shoes include a spike key when purchased, but they can easily be lost over time.

If you don’t already have one, we recommend adding a spike key to your order so you can quickly and easily install your new spikes.

How long will it take for spikes to arrive?

We ship every business day from Melbourne.

Express delivery via Australia Post typically arrives within 2–3 business days, depending on your location.

Regular delivery (untracked) usually takes around 5–7 business days.

If you need spikes urgently for a race or competition, we recommend selecting Express Delivery at checkout.

I need spikes this weekend. Can I pick them up from you?

Spikes.au operates exclusively online, so we’re unable to offer in-person pickup. All orders are shipped via post.

If you need spikes urgently, some specialist running stores in Australia stock selected Spikes.au products. Contact us and we can provide a list of current stockists who may be able to help.
